Former NBA player Kyrie Irving began his basketball career in high school, playing for Montclair Kimberley Academy and St. Patrick High School. He became the school’s second 1,000-point scorer and helped St. Patrick win its third New Jersey Tournament of Champions championship. He committed to Duke in 2009 and played for the Blue Devils from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, he was the first overall pick in the NBA Draught and was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was selected for the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge and was named NBA Rookie of the Year. The Cavaliers made their first NBA Finals appearance in 2015, but Kyrie Irving fractured his knee cap in game 6. In 2017, he requested that the Cavaliers trade him in order for him to become a superstar like LeBron James. Irving spent two seasons with the Celtics before joining the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. In 2023, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
