Holi, which is also known as the ‘Festival of Colors’. Holi has a rooted connection with Hindu. Holi is celebrated everywhere in India and also in some place of foreign. It is celebrated every year in the month of March. This year in 2025 it will be celebrated on Friday 14th March. It is not only the festival of colors, but it’s also the festival of triumph of good over evil, it’s the festival of love, joy, unity, get together and also celebration of sweets specially Holi famous dishes. 

As, we all are looking that since our childhood Holi is being celebrated with so much enthusiasm, joy and happiness. We meet our friends, we take blessings from our elders, People India also go to celebrate this festival to the house of other family members like cousins and more. Holi is celebrated every place in India. It is one of most celebrated festival of India, where people’s from different region add some extra flavor in the way of their celebration. 

  • North India: Holi is one of the grand festivals in North India, specially in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. As Mathura and Vrindavan have a rooted connection with Lord Krishan. It is celebrated by music, dance, sweets and more. 
  • Western India: In Maharashtra it is celebrated by tradition of mimicking Lord Krishna’s playful act ‘Matki Phod’ which is done as a young men’s stand in pyramid shape, in which lots of men or boys gathering took place and the boy or person above the pyramids brakes the earthen pot, which is basically filled with buttermilk and more. 
  • Eastern India: In Eastern India, in West Bengal, Holi is celebrated as the tradition of ‘Dol Jatra’ in which idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are carried in processions and it’s accompanied by dancing and also with singing. 
  • South India: In South India, Holi is not that much as popular as in North India, But in states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, People celebrate the auspicious festival basically with temple rituals and processions. 

The celebration of Holi starts or begins with Holika Dahan, which is also referred as Chhoti Holi. In the night of holika dahan people gather around bonfires and perform the rituals which are being performing from the past to ward off evil spirits and the next day is know as ‘Rangwali Holi’ where play with colors and with colors powders of different colors like Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue and More. People prepares special dishes for Holi like they cook sweets malpua, gujia, dahi vada. Also in many places it’s celebrated by drinking Thandai (Thandai is basically a traditional drink which is often mixed with Bhang). Family, Relatives and Friends go to each other house’s to spread joy with each other and strengthening the bonds.

  1. Mathura & Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh : The place which is known as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. These two towns celebrate holi like no other does. It is celebrated in a grand way. Color festivals at Dwarkadhish Temple and Banke Bihari Temple. It’s is celebrated with grand procession following temple rituals with full of vivibes
  2. Barsana, Uttar Pradesh: This place is famous for ‘Lathmar Holi’. Where men are playfully hitted by women with sticks, recreating playful teasing between Lord Krishna and Radha. 
  3. Udaipur, Rajasthan: The Meywar Royal family organizes this festival in a grand celebration like the spectacular Holika Dahan ceremony and also a grand procession from the City Palace lots of people travel there and celebrate this festival Udaipur. 
  4. Jaipur, Rajasthan: The Pink City of India organises the royal celebration of the festival, which includes traditional music and dance performance, elephant parades, and other cultural performances. 
  5. Delhi: In the capital city of India, Delhi, Holi is being celebrated like the following rituals and following other traditions. But, apart from this in Delhi Holi also famous for ‘Holi Moo Festival’ which is the popular event, which includes liver performances and the festival revelry. 
  6. Shantiniketan, West Bengal: In this place, From the past Holi is being celebrated with following rituals, music, dance and with cultural performances, but “Basanta Utsav” which was introduced by Rabindranath Tagore combines with the celebration of Holi and make it special from the other place of India. 
  7. Hampi, Karnataka: It is one of the few places in South India where Holi is celebrated by playing with colors, musical events and more.
