Ja Morant was born on August 10, 1999. Morant grew up in Dalzell, South Carolina. Morant worked out in his backyard every day with his father and sister, aspiring to be an NBA player. Morant later attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. He graduated as the all-time leading scorer with 1,679 points and a career-high 47 points. He averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game in his last two seasons at Crestwood, earning him South Carolina 3A All State honours both.

He was born to Tee and Jamie Morant.  Ja Morant’s mother, Jamie, was a high school point guard and college softball player. His father, Tee, played basketball for Claflin University. Tee after  playing semi-professionally, he considered playing professional basketball overseas, but due to Jamie’s pregnancy with Ja, he abandoned his basketball career and stayed at home, becoming a barber instead.

Ja Morant has spent four seasons with the Grizzlies. In 248 regular-season games, he averaged 22.4 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.

In the 2019 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Ja Morant with the second overall pick. He was chosen second to Zion Williamson. Morant signed his first contract with the Grizzlies on July 2, 2019. Morant had 14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, one steal, and one block in his NBA debut against the Miami Heat. Morant recorded his first career triple-double against the Washington Wizards on February 9. The team released a statement on Twitter saying he is “suspended from all team activities pending League review.” This is the second time since March the 23-year-old has been suspended for showing a gun online.
